Artist Research | Rachel Rossin

http://rossin.co/ I chose to research Rachel Rossin, since her work stood out to me. Rachel Rossin is a multi-media and installation artist, originally from Florida and now based in New York City.  She is also self-taught in coding and game design.  Rachel Rossin's work consists of  working in both traditional and digital mediums. She paints surreal canvases that meld distorted,  somewhat abstract fragments of landscapes and still lifes with painted strokes and very vivid colors. When she is finished she then photographs these works and digitally manipulates them to create brief, trippy films that, when viewed with a Virtual Reality headset, simulate the experience of being immersed in the paintings. 

Project 2 | Proposal

For my second project, I want to take a few bottles varying in size and shape, paint it white then create an animation to project onto them. The theme would be personal, going on the idea of bottling up emotions. The colors I use will be specific to that emotion. Materials : Bottles White spray paint/ acrylic paint fabric material  maya mad mapper wacom tablet Timeline : 2/13 start gathering bottles 2/15 start creating animation 2/18 find fabric back drop

Project 1 + Artist Statement

Statement:         My goal for this project was to create something that was fleeting. I Created images that I thought would look visually pleasing, then either crumpled it up or set it on fire. I especially love the visual aspect of fire, If I could I would've had this project completely consist of flames. I only had one chance to record each piece being destroyed.             I enjoyed creating things and not going back. As an artist, I usually like to keep anything I create. Some things actually came out pretty nice and it was hard to let go but that was part of the challenge. I included a "glitching" effect to sort of represent the struggle of destroying my art. I threw everything out when I was finished recording and it felt almost liberating.
