Artist Research| Bill Viola

Image
His Website        Bill Viola is a contemporary artist who uses video art, audio and new technology to explore things like birth, death, emotions and aspects of consciousness. He has been creating his works for 40 years. He has created things like videotapes, architectural video installations, sound environments, electronic music performances, flat panel video pieces, and works for television broadcast. Something that you notice, going through his works is that he tends to explore dualism, the division of something conceptually into two opposed or contrasted aspects. For example, a lot of his work has themes such as life and death, light and dark, stressed and calm, or loud and quiet. Example of Work Example of Work

Project 1 | Proposal

For my first project I am going to be recording myself creating multiple images with different materials and destroying them. The video clips will be short and fleeting. They will be placed in no particular order and while editing I will reverse some footage and cut them in awkward places in order to further confuse the viewers. Perhaps the audio can add an extra needed element to change the viewers perception of time. The idea is to make the viewer feel like an image was created out of nowhere. The materials for this project: -paper -sugar or glitter -blow dryer -canon 6Ti -tripod Timeline: -1/29: Have materials collected -1/30: Record footage -1/31: Edit footage -1/31: Create audio for BG -1/31: Artist Research Assignment

Intro

I'm Joyce Atallah. I'm a senior majoring in Animation. I'm originally from Long Island, NY and starting living in Clearwater, FL for about two years. I love to illustrate and love the use of saturated colors. After I graduate I would love to find a job in an animation studio. I would be content with storyboarding, concept art, character design or anything of the sort. I have never taken a class like this before so I'm curious what will come out of it !
